If you’ve ever been or currently are pregnant, the term pregnancy brain will have you groaning. This foggy state of mind is not a sign you are losing it or that anything is wrong. It’s actually quite common.
What Is It?
Forgetfulness and the daze that has you searching for keys or asking yourself, “Why did I come into this room?” is caused by a change in brain size. The brain decreases in cell volume during the third trimester due to hormonal changes, most researchers believe. However, don’t fear that it will remain like that forever. The shrinkage reverses soon after delivery.
Should I Worry?
Not at all. Remember, it’s normal and won’t last. Be kind and understanding to yourself as you struggle with this annoyance. Family and friends will take their cue from you.
Can I Do Anything About It?
Pregnancy brain isn’t exactly fun, but laughing at your momentary lapses and keeping a sense of humor is a healthy approach to managing this temporary inconvenience.
