Young Moms Conference Takes Over New York City
New York, NY, August 16, 2012 – Strong support and services are hard to come by for many young parents, even those that live in this powerhouse of a city. That’s why on Saturday, September 8th, Young Urban Moms, Inc. (YUM) will bring together some of the top organizations and speakers at the Malcolm X & Dr. Betty Shabazz Center to bring a fresh perspective to the discussion.
Since its launch in 2010, youngurbanmoms.com has strived to make a scene for the young, professional parent. The site has discussed everything from dating and breastfeeding to career networking for the young mom on the go. For the co-founders, this conference is an accumulation of those discussions. “We’re making sure the discussion doesn’t just remain online,” said co-founder, Carolina Pichardo. “We’re making sure that organizations, businesses and politicians, are also aware of what affects us as parents and working mothers.” “It will be a great opportunity for local business owners to network and for YUMs, and dads, to become educated on all of the amenities in the area that they can take advantage of to become the best parents possible, which will ultimately strengthen the community.” added co-founder Mary Targia Almonte.
It’s only appropriate that for the groundbreaking, first-ever Young Moms Conference in New York City, a groundbreaking, powerful Keynote takes the center stage. That’s why New York Times bestselling author and a young mom herself, Gloria Feldt is honoring us with what People Magazine called the “voice of experience”. Having served as the President and CEO of Planned Parenthood Federation of America for almost a decade, Feldt is aware of what stops most women from achieving their best. Feldt’s passion for social justice and bettering women’s lives has led her across the country, and now she’s making a special stop Northern Manhattan to empower YUMs with inspirational stories and powerful tools.
Organizations like The SPEACH, A Young Mother’s D.R.E.A.M., and Working Mother Magazine are sponsoring several panels and booths. Panels will support women to continue their education, understand how to keep their families (and themselves) healthy and strong, and best resources and tips on childcare.
